If you are thinking about buying a luxury home in Reno, Nevada, you might be surprised to learn that Reno is one of the best golf destinations in the entire country. With 21 golf courses spread across the valley and surrounding areas, the Reno-Tahoe region offers a range of country club communities that rival anything you would find in Scottsdale or Palm Springs.

We sat down with top Reno luxury real estate agent Soni Jackson of SoniJackson.com to get her insider breakdown of the five best country club communities for luxury buyers, covering price points, amenities, schools, architecture, and overall lifestyle.

1. Montreux -- https://montreuxgolf.com/ -- The Crown Jewel of Reno Luxury

When it comes to prestige and name recognition, Montreux sits at the top of the list. This gated, 24/7 private community is built around a Jack Nicklaus-designed, 7,500-yard championship golf course that hosted the Reno-Tahoe Open PGA Tour event as recently as 2019. The course is known for its dramatic 17th hole, a par four with a 138-foot drop from the tee that serious golfers talk about by name.

What makes Montreux truly special is the lifestyle surrounding the course. Tucked into the pine trees at the base of Mount Rose, the community feels more like a mountain resort than a residential neighborhood. The recently remodeled clubhouse features fire pits, bocce ball courts, a swimming pool, and tennis courts. The architectural guidelines are strict, which means homes throughout the community share a cohesive French stone masonry aesthetic with steep rooflines and sweeping mountain character. That consistency is part of what keeps values elevated.

Montreux is also uniquely positioned for four-season living. Skiers can be on the slopes at Mount Rose in 10 to 15 minutes from their front door. For buyers who want to play golf in the morning and ski in the afternoon, there is no better setup in the Reno market.

Price points in Montreux start around $2 million and can climb to $10 million and beyond.

Membership in the golf club requires a referral and a thorough background check process, which adds to the exclusivity. Importantly, you do not have to own within the gates to hold a club membership, though the vast majority of members do.

School zoning places Montreux within the Galena High School district, which is well regarded, though the schools themselves are a 15 to 20 minute drive from the neighborhood.

2. ArrowCreek -- https://theclubac.com/ -- Resort-Style Luxury with Sweeping Views

ArrowCreek earns the second spot on Soni's list and she will be the first to tell you it is an extremely close second. Where Montreux is tucked into the trees, ArrowCreek opens up to the hillsides on the west side of Reno with expansive views of the city skyline and the Mount Rose range. If you are the type of buyer who wants to feel the scale of the landscape around you rather than be nestled within it, ArrowCreek is likely your community.

The golf itself is massive. ArrowCreek features a 36-hole course designed by Arnold Palmer, essentially two full courses combined into one. New ownership took over roughly five years ago and completely rebuilt the clubhouse into one of the most impressive facilities in the region, with fine dining, casual dining, event and wedding spaces, bocce ball courts, and a resort-style pool that overlooks the mountain peaks. There is also an app-based membership system, a childcare facility on site, and a dedicated area for kids at the pool.

Golf carts are a way of life here, and that extends to the teenage kids cruising the neighborhood after school.

On the residential side, ArrowCreek offers more architectural variety than Montreux. You will find everything from modern and contemporary homes to Mediterranean and French-inspired designs. The community ranges from more affordable semi-custom homes in the lower sections, priced from around $1 million, all the way up to multi-million dollar estate properties in the elevated back sections of the community, where lots are larger and the views improve significantly. The upper range reaches $6 million to $7 million.

One of ArrowCreek's strongest selling points for families is its proximity to top-rated schools. Hunsberger Elementary sits directly outside the gates, and the newly built Marce Herz Middle School is right down the road. Many buyers move to ArrowCreek specifically for that school zoning.

It is also worth noting that ArrowCreek HOA dues cover access to a separate resident center with a pool, gym, basketball court, tennis courts, and pickleball, independent of the golf club membership. That gives buyers who are not ready to join the club a meaningful set of amenities included in their HOA.

3. Lakeridge Shores -- https://www.lakeridgegolfcourse.com/ -- Original Reno Luxury in the Heart of the City

Lakeridge Shores represents something different from the first two communities. This is original Reno money, with a history going back to the 1960s and 70s. The neighborhood was built around the Lakeridge Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones design that opened in 1969 and has been voted best in Reno year after year by local readers and residents. Unlike Montreux and ArrowCreek, Lakeridge is a public course, which means anyone can play, but the residential community surrounding it is among the most sought-after in the city.

The centerpiece of the neighborhood is Lake Stanley, a private manmade lake hidden from the main roads. Residents living along the lake can kayak and paddleboat on the water while the golf course wraps around them. You would have no idea this exists from the highway, which is part of the charm. The 15th hole, known locally as the City View Moment, is a popular spot for photos and has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Reno golf.

What draws buyers to Lakeridge Shores tends to be character and maturity. The homes here are older, many built in the 70s and 80s, with a mid-century modern feel and sweeping mature trees, willow trees, large shade trees, and lush landscaping that takes decades to develop. For buyers who want something with soul rather than something brand new, Lakeridge Shores delivers. Homes that have been fully renovated sell quickly and at top dollar.

Unrenovated homes represent a significant value-add opportunity for the right buyer.

Proximity to the rest of the city is also a major factor. Lakeridge Shores is roughly eight minutes from the Reno-Tahoe Airport and minutes from downtown, but it feels like a private enclave. Nearby, the Rancharrah Club offers pool and dining amenities for those who want them, rounding out the lifestyle picture.

Lakefront homes in Lakeridge Shores are priced from around $2 million, with some properties commanding $2.5 million or more even before renovation.

4. Somersett -- https://www.somersettgolf.com/ -- Northwest Reno's Best Value in a Master-Planned Community

Somersett is Soni's pick for the best bang for your buck among the top country club communities in Reno. Located in Northwest Reno at the base of the Western Sierras, Somersett is a master-planned community centered around a private 18-hole championship golf course. The course sits at elevation and features some steep, dramatic holes with the Sierra Nevada ridgeline as a constant backdrop. Soni puts Somersett among the top communities in the city for raw views.

The community amenities are arguably the most impressive relative to cost of any community on this list. Monthly HOA dues of around $265 give residents access to a large resident clubhouse, an adult lap pool, a family pool with waterslides and water features for kids, a gym, pilates classes, a half basketball court, and tennis courts. A village within Somersett also includes a sushi restaurant and a tapas bar. For families, Somersett checks nearly every box.

Somersett tends to attract California buyers who are exploring Reno for the first time, partly because Northwest Reno is the natural entry point from the Bay Area and partly because the community is approachable without feeling like a compromise. Price points start around $500,000 for townhomes and climb to roughly $5 million for the larger estate properties on the golf course.

One thing Soni is upfront about: wind is a real factor in Somersett. Positioned at the base of a canyon opening in the Western Sierras, the community gets significant natural airflow, especially when storms roll in. Some buyers love the early warning system. Others find it a dealbreaker. If you are touring Somersett, spend time there in the afternoon and ask locals about it before you commit.

5. Red Hawk -- https://www.redhawkgolfandresort.com/ -- Luxury Living on the Northeast Side in Sparks

Red Hawk rounds out the list as the premier luxury golf community on the northeastern side of the metro, located in Sparks. It is semi-private and features a 36-hole course combining the Hills Course, designed by Hale Irwin, and the Lakes Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones. Both courses were built through what was formerly known as Wingfield Ranch, a historic marshland and wetland area that gives the community a lush, unexpected character that sets it apart from the drier hillside communities on the west side.

Red Hawk brought a level of luxury living to Sparks that the area had not seen before. The on-site restaurant is well regarded and the community is genuinely beautiful, with the natural wetlands and cottonwood trees adding a distinct sense of place. It is not a gated community, which gives it a more open feel than the other communities on this list.

From a value standpoint, Red Hawk is the strongest story on the list. Homes range from around $500,000 to roughly $2 million, with waterfront and course-adjacent properties at the higher end. Soni noted that a current listing directly on the golf course at $2.4 million would likely be priced at $4 million or more if it were located in Somersett or ArrowCreek. For buyers who are more focused on value and lifestyle than on prestige address, Red Hawk is a compelling option.

Which Community is Right for You?

Here is a quick summary to help frame the decision:

Montreux is the right fit if you want the most prestigious address in Reno, love a forested mountain setting, and are a serious golfer or skier looking for a four-season lifestyle at the highest price point.

ArrowCreek is the right fit if you want sweeping views, a resort-level experience, top-rated schools within walking distance, and a strong family community with flexible price points from $1 million to $7 million.

Lakeridge Shores is the right fit if you want character, maturity, and a central location, and you are drawn to older homes with renovation potential in an established neighborhood with a private lake.

Somersett is the right fit if you want the best amenities-to-cost ratio in the city, incredible mountain views, and an active family lifestyle with strong value from $500K to $5 million.

Red Hawk is the right fit if you want something beautiful and understated on the northeast side with the best price-per-dollar on the list.
